Educational Work

Teacher of piano, violin and composition

I currently have about 9 pupils,
some come every week some only occasionally. They have produced some fabulous compositions and I am pleased with their instrumental progress too.
I also teach theory, which is much easier to learn once you start writing your own compositions.
If people want to do the Grades I am happy to take them through what is required. I have taught up to Grade 8 in piano, up to Grade 4 in violin, and up to grade 6 in theory.
I do not insist on taking people through grades if they do not want to do it.
I teach both children (over 7) and adults.

My qualifications:

I am a qualified teacher (cert.ed) and have a Dartington Diploma in Music in Education, and a Licence de Composition Musicale de L'Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.

External Examiner

Currently External Examiner on the Music Production BA (Hons) one year top-up course at Northbrook College, Worthing, part of Brighton University.
Previous External Examiner work has included 4 years at Bishop Otter College on the Related Arts component of a joint Arts degree BA (Hons).
Prior to that I was External Examiner for Brighton University on the Music Option of the Visual and Performing Arts course BA (Hons.

Work as a music teacher in Schools

I worked for 8 years as a music specialist teacher 1976-1984, at Franklin Delano Roosevelt School for children with physical disabilities. I did class teaching and some individual instrumental teaching. We put on a lot of exciting shows. Some of the pupils did CSE music exams and one pupil did A level in music.
